Yakult Science for Health are on a mission to empower healthcare professionals to expand their knowledge of the gut microbiota, probiotics and more. This is a chance to be part of a friendly team of nutritionists and dietitians working cross-functionally to make the science on gut health easy to digest.   

This role will give you the opportunity to apply your science and nutrition knowledge and showcase your science communication skills within the rapidly exciting research area of the gut microbiome. You will support the organisation and running of a diverse range of scientific and educational activities and information (including digital activities) for healthcare professionals and scientists across the UK and Ireland. Your projects will involve working across different mediums (including social media, podcast platform, print materials and live events) and with leading researchers, social media influencers and key opinion leaders in gut health. You will have plenty of opportunities to build your professional network whilst attending National and International events.

  • Lead digital strategy for external science communications on the gut microbiome and probiotics to healthcare professionals (HCPs), including social media posts and podcast series. Identifying opportunities for digital growth to drive traffic to Yakult HCP website/resources.
  • Manage arrangements for exhibitions at external scientific/HCP conferences, overseeing that all logistics and stand material preparations are carried out by the Science Communications Officer.
  • Represent Yakult at scientific and HCP external events in UK & Ireland, as well as Yakult scientific events in Europe (e.g., International Yakult Symposium).
  • Scientific lead for planning Love Your Gut [PR Campaign] activities for HCP engagement.
  • Co-ordinate HCP communications via advertisements in relevant HCP media [i.e., magazines/websites] and award sponsorships.
  • Report digital science communications analytics to meet KPIs.
  • Support the planning and execution of internal scientific/HCP events [i.e., study days/workshops] and digital activities [i.e., webinars/podcast series/social media influencer campaigns].
  • Involved in the preparation of content for communications with HCPs/scientists via social media, podcast and the Yakult HCP website, e-newsletter, fact sheets, recipes, blog posts and/or other materials.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of key areas of research relevant to Yakult and the gut microbiome, critically reviewing scientific literature. Writing scientific reviews or articles for a broad range of HCP/scientific audiences.
  • Present scientific information to a broad range of HCP/scientific audiences through educational talks, including University guest lectures and hospital talks.
  • Ability to attend scientific meetings with European Science Department (various European locations 3x year) with Science Manager.
  • Manage and support the development of key organisational relationships with stakeholders including partnerships, KOLs and healthcare professional networks.
  • Respond to routine enquires from HCPs/scientists.
  • Provide internal support to PR, marketing & sales departments [as required].
  • Support with management of placement students and Science Communications Officer
  • Hybrid working - 3 days office attendance required & 2 days Work From Home (WFH)


  • BSc or above - MSc desirable - in Nutrition/Microbiology/Science Communications or related Life Sciences degree with a 2:1 or above [essential]
  • RD or AfN accreditation [desirable]
  • 2-4 years’ experience of food industry experience
  • Experience with content creation for digital channels
  • Experience communicating with and presenting to varied audiences, both scientific and non-scientific
  • Experience in critically appraising scientific information and translating it into clear evidence-based messages
  • Experience in scientific writing
  • Experience with managing digital channels for communications and reporting analytics, including social media channels, CMS, CRM [desirable].
  • Experience with organising events (in-person and/or digital) [desirable]
  • Experience working both independently and with teams on projects
  • Strong communications skills – strong written and oral skills with the ability to translate and communicate complex scientific information to both scientific and non-scientific audiences [essential]
  • Awareness of areas of research into the gut microbiota and/or probiotics [essential]
  • Knowledge and understanding of UK and Ireland health claims regulations [desirable]
  • Good organisation and time management skills with great attention to detail [essential]
  • Competent IT skills (word, excel, PowerPoint etc) [essential]
  • Willing and able to travel [within UK & Europe], with overnight stays, evening and very occasionally weekend work.
  • Holds a valid UK driving licence [for use of company pool car when required]
